Bramhope Methodist Church
1st Tuesday of the month, 10am-12pm.
The Drop-In runs alongside the Church’s coffee morning.

Support

 

Friendly visits

A home visiting service offered to our more lonely and isolated members who unable to get out the house much.
 
Service is dependent on availability of volunteers.

Advocacy

We can support members to fill out forms and make inquiries or complaints.

We regularly call some of our more isolated members to keep in touch and to generally have a chat.

Home visits

All OPAL members are offered a home visit so that we can give information and agree how OPAL can support them and/or signpost to other support services.

Birthday and Christmas cards

We send all our members a birthday and Christmas card each year.

Carers Support Group

We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month and pretty much do whatever the group chooses.
This varies from going to Golden Acre, going for a meal somewhere, having a relaxation session or anything else we fancy that gives our carers a break.

 

 

Social Activities

 

Day trips

Trips to various venues once a month including places like Skipton, Bridlington and Harlow Carr. The coach is fully accessible and a team of volunteers are always on hand to help push wheelchairs, link up with people who are on their own and help out whenever needed.

Knitting Group

A small group of knitters and natterers meet at the OPAL office 2nd Wednesday of the month 2pm-4pm.

Tea Dance

A great atmosphere where you can join in the dancing or just sit and enjoy watching. Refreshments provided and newcomers always welcomed with a smile. Every other Tuesday 1pm-3pm at Friends Meeting House.

Coffee Afternoon

Come and join us for tea, coffee, chat and whatever activity has been organised. We meet weekly on Friday, 1.30pm – 3.30pm at Cookridge Court and every session we have a different activity whether its inviting a speaker, playing table games, bingo, playing on the Wii (an interactive computer game). Theatre Group

We run regular trips to selected shows at The Playhouse. Look at our newsletter for more details.Transport is provided if needed*.

 

 

Intergenerational
projects

 

Christmas banquet

Each year, Ralph Thoresby High School invite 150 OPAL members to come and celebrate Christmas with them.
Staff, students and parents put on a 5 course banquet with entertainment. A fabulous night is always had by all.

Strawberry Tea

Ralph Thoresby also organise a strawberry tea party in the summer months for 50 of our members. They provide the refreshments and entertainment and make sure that all those who attend have a wonderful time

Reading with children

Want to help young children with their reading?   
We can introduce you to a local school. We will need to do a Police check and take references.

Memories group

Share your memories with local school children. We cover projects such the WW2, how the local area has changed and games and toys from the past.

Nifty Knitters

Teach children to knit and do tapestry

Singing Group

A community singing group for people of all ages. Held weekly at Ralph Thoresby High School on a Wednesday 3.45pm – 5pm
Transport can be provided.

 

 

Health and Wellbeing

 

Tai Chi

Learn the art of Tai Chi in a relaxed group. This gentle form of exercise is a proven way to improve your health and well being.
We have a class in Bramhope and one in Adel.
£2.50 per class.

Chair exercise

A great way to exercise if you aren’t so steady on your feet. Tea and biscuits provided at the end of the class.  
£2.50 per class and transport provided.

Gentle exercise

For those who are a little more energetic, this class is for you.
£2.50 per person and transport provided.

Massage

A full body massage (with your clothes on) at OPAL office by a fully qualified masseur.
£5 per session.

Reiki

Come and experience this natural form of healing. Offered by a qualified practitioner.
£10 per session

Yoga

Dru yoga is a gentle flowing style of yoga. Perfect for those who can’t get down on the floor with your legs wrapped behind your neck!
£2.50 per class.

Shopping

We run a fortnightly shopping trip to the Owlcotes Centre (ASDA, Boots and Marks and Spencer), using a fully accessible minibus. 
We charge £3.50 per shopping trip.

Handyman

Need a bulb changing? A curtain rail putting up? Our handyman can do most small jobs.
£3.50 per job.

Fire Safety Checks

We can organise for you to get your home checked for fire safety.

Home Security Checks

We can organise for you to get your home checked to make sure it is secure.

Falls Assessment

Have you fallen in your home or are you worried about falling. We can arrange for someone to come and help you prevent any falls.

Benefits Assessment

We can organise for you to get help to assess whether you are eligible to claim any benefits.

Computer lessons

One to one tuition for 6 weeks.
£6 for the block of 6, 1 hour sessions.

Craft group

A great opportunity to try all different types of crafts. Come and join our friendly group and discover your hidden talents.
At OPAL office the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month 1.30pm-3.30pm
