Welcome to OPAL’s July/August Newsletter.
Life at OPAL continues to be busy and exciting. We have launched our third weekly luncheon club – this one is for over 50’s and is on a Friday serving at 12noon and 1pm. You get a 2 course meal and a cuppa for just £4!!!
Our fortnightly Ping Table Tennis Group is getting more and more popular and is great fun. Thank you to Peter and Rick from PING who are on hand to give coaching and support as well as having the essential fishing net for retrieving stray balls. All levels of ability are made very welcome – as an absolute novice I can vouch for that - but if you fancy a challenging game, we also have some fiendishly skilful players.
Thank you to the BeyondMe-PwC team who invested their time and money over the last year to support OPAL with our management strategy, digital strategy and social evaluation. We also had a team come spend a day with us helping with promotion, gardening and driving.
The gardening is a massive task and one that needs hours and hours of work. We had a team from Leeds Building Society and a team
from Johnson and Johnson who each
gave their time to help. We don’t yet have the money to spend on the grounds so we are indebted to the many groups for helping to make our grounds look tidy and cared for.
If you know anyone/any company who would like to have a team building day, then our grounds provide the perfect opportunity for people to work together and to make a difference. If you want more information, please get in contact.
It is our AGM in 2 weeks’ time on 19th July at 2pm, at Cookridge Methodist Church Hall. It has been a year of change for OPAL and our members and we would love you to come along and help us shape the future of OPAL.
We also have entertainment by the fabulous swing singer Richard Daniels, homemade cake and we celebrate OPAL’s 15th year of supporting older people in Leeds16.
OPAL’s Welcome In Community Café is open 9am – 2pm on Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays and all are welcome. We serve breakfasts, lunch and the most delicious homemade cakes at very reasonable prices. We have free Wi-Fi and a big car park so you can use the café for informal meetings or to work. We have also started hosting events in the café and recently hosted a children’s disco and a funeral tea. We also have a significant birthday party booked in a few weeks. We have a great space so if you have an event coming up, why not consider Welcome In Community Centre for your venue?
Finally, a little reminder to all who shop at Coop to use your coop loyalty card and please log into your Coop account and choose OPAL as your nominated charity. We are raising much needed funds for our Remember When Group (for people with dementia and their carers) and if you do this, 1% of all your spending on Coop branded items will be donated to OPAL.
Thank you as always to all of you for supporting OPAL. We are incredibly lucky to have so many people support us and we really value each and every one of you.
